MERATV Film Festival 2025 Jury Members
Dr. Neha Tiwari
H.O.D Mass Communication Video Production
Dr. Neha Tiwari is a Senior Assistant Professor of English and Professor In-Charge of Mass Communication at Karim City College, Jamshedpur. With dual Master’s degrees in English and Journalism & Mass Communication and a Ph.D. in English, she blends academic excellence with a deep passion for storytelling. A former India Today journalist and Tata Steel communication consultant, she has also served as a jury member for the 65th National Film Awards and has advised several prestigious film festivals.
Congratulations to GR8DESIGNS and MERATV for organizing such a culturally vibrant festival celebrating Jharkhand’s cinema. As a jury member, I found it challenging to differentiate between the films, as the overall quality was truly impressive. The festival created a promising space for emerging talent, and I feel deeply connected to MERATV and look forward to continuing this association.
Tathagata Bhattacherjee
Film Writer & Director, Kolkata
Tathagata Bhattacherjee is an award-winning Bengali film director known for films like Antarghaat, Seven Days, Astra, and Akorik. He also served as Executive Producer for Goutam Ghose’s Hindi film Raahgir. With decades of experience across feature films, documentaries, and television, he has earned recognition at national and international festivals, and has been organizing film festivals in Jharkhand for 18 years through Take 5 Communications.
For Jharkhand’s cinema to grow sustainably, collaboration beyond regional boundaries is vital. MERATV Film Festival nurtures this vision through masterclasses and meaningful interactions that help young filmmakers become industry-ready. Being part of MERATV gives me immense satisfaction — I feel deeply connected to the team and contribute wholeheartedly with my experience and suggestions.
Dashrath Hansda
Santhali Filmmaker
Dashrath Hansda is Jharkhand’s first Santhali filmmaker, who began directing films in 1988. His debut 35mm Santhali film Chando Lekhan marked a milestone in regional cinema, and his film Joram was honoured at the Berlin Film Festival. A recipient of several national recognitions, including honours at the All India Indigenous Film Festival (2022) and the Adivasi Film Kala Samman, he is frequently invited as a jury member and mentor at film festivals.
MERATV Film Festival is a significant initiative for Jharkhand’s regional and indigenous cinema, especially Santhali storytelling. As a jury member, I was pleased to see so many films deeply rooted in our soil and culture. It is encouraging to witness young filmmakers embracing their language and identity. Such platforms are essential to preserve our heritage and inspire the next generation.
Vishal Verma
Fim Director& Producer, Mumbai
Vishal Chandra Bhan Verma is a filmmaker with over 15 years of experience in the Indian film industry. Mentored by Shishir Mishra, he has worked alongside renowned directors like Satish Kaushik and Anees Bazmee on notable projects. Having directed Hindi and Bhojpuri films as well as vertical series, he is known for his versatile storytelling and collaborations with eminent Bollywood artistes. He strongly believes that staying connected to one’s roots brings deeper creative exposure and authenticity to cinema.
The most significant aspect of the MERATV Film Festival is its ability to bring filmmakers and industry professionals from diverse backgrounds onto one unified platform. Such gatherings encourage meaningful interactions, dialogue, and a rich exchange of ideas — all of which are essential for creative growth and collaboration.
